Frequently Asked Question(FAQ's)

What is Compressed Bio Gas or CBG ?

CBG or Compressed Bio Gas consists of mainly methane (more than 90%) and other gases like carbon dioxide (less than 4%), etc. CBG is produced by anaerobic digestion of biomass and waste sources like agricultural residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, sewage treatment plant waste, etc. This Biogas can be purified to remove hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor and when this purified biogas (methane content more than 90%) is compressed to maximum 250 bar and filled up in cascades (group of high pressure cylindrical vessels), it is called Compressed Bio Gas or CBG.

Is CBG same as CNG or is there any difference. Can CBG be filled in place of CNG ?

CBG has properties almost similar to CNG and hence a vehicle running on CNG can straightway be filled with CBG without any modification in the vehicle. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, vide Gazette Notification no. 395 dated 16.6.2015 has permitted usage of CBG for motor vehicles as an alternate of CNG. BIS has issued IS 16087 2016 standards on CBG which is similar to BIS specifications IS 15958:2012 for CNG.

Benefit's of Bio-GAS / CBG ?

Non-polluting: Biogas burns without smoke; hence no harmful gas such as CO2, CO, NO2, and SO2 are evolved. Reduces Landfills: The slurry produced after the production of biogas is used as manure in fields. The method of disposal is safe and efficient and hence no space is wasted in the form of landfills. Cheaper technology: Biogas plants require very little installation cost and become self-sufficient in a span of 3-4 months. Generates employment: Work opportunity for thousands of people is created, especially in rural areas. Renewable source of energy: It is considered as a renewable source of energy because the production is dependent on the generation of waste which is an endless process.

What is Bio–Diesel ?

Biodiesel is a liquid fuel, technically known as a mono alkyl ester, made from oils and alcohols. Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that can be produced in any climate using already developed agricultural practices. Biodiesel is made from renewable resources such as vegetable oils or other types of biomass. B100 is 100% biodiesel. Biodiesel is widely available in both its neat form (B100) and in blends with petroleum diesel (for example B2, B5, B20).

Is Bio-Diesel same as Diesel, Can Bio-Diesel be filled in place of Diesel ?

Bio-Diesel has properties almost similar to Diesel and hence a vehicle running on Diesel can straightway be filled with Biodiesel without any modification in the vehicle. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, vide Biodiesel Gazette No- 132 dated on 30/04/2019 has permitted usage of Biodiesel for motor vehicles as an alternate of Diesel.
